I just completed
this Madagascar Rosewood and Western Red Cedar
guitar. The rosewood is all quartersawn, and
the sides have a beautiful dark spider web
grain, reminiscent of Brazilian. The cedar
is one of only three tops I have come across
in the last 15 years with this much 'bear
claw' figure. A very stiff top that I did
not work thinner, but rather braced very lightly.
The result is a very powerful instrument,
loud and clear in all the registers, and a
crystalline sound that is easy to articulate.
It has one hour of playing time and sounds
like it's been open for months. This guitar
will mature into an instrument with an enormous
presence, yet you will have no problem playing
pianissimo.
The price
is $6700.
